Dead Oceans' latest signing was discovered via an email with
a link to songs that stopped them in their tracks. The songs were raw,
haunting and assured; something very special indeed. The creative voice
of Night Beds, Winston Yellen, hails from Nashville by way of Colorado
Springs. The 23 year-old songwriter boasts a new, great American voice
that marks him out as a singular talent. Think of a space between Mark
Kozelek, Gram Parsons and the dreamier side of My Morning Jacket; a
heavenly place of pure country soul.
On first single 'Even If We Try', Yellen makes a stunning
first step and displays his extraordinary vocal skills. The a-side
slowly builds in force from a wistful lullaby to an unexpectedly buoyant
climax. 'Even If We Try' was recorded in a self-built studio in the
former home of Johnny Cash and June Carter located in Hendersonville, TN.
'Even If We Try’ with b-side 'You Were Afraid’ is Night Beds debut 7" for Dead Oceans and will be released 26th November. He will then follow this release with his UK live debut, listings as follows:
Monday 3 December – LONDON – Shepherd's Bush Empire (with Sharon Van Etten)
Tuesday 4 December – LONDON – The Slaughtered Lamb (headline show)
