WAZU Premiere "Murder 1"

If you’ve been paying attention to the NYC music scene (and you should be) you know that Brooklyn-based Australian transplants WAZU have been generating heaps of buzz as of late. And if you’ve heard their new single “Murder 1,” you understand why. It’s synth-heavy, post-apocalyptic pop that tips its hat to dark wave gothic gloom while shimmering with a healthy dose of neon (Ziggy) stardust.

In 2011, WAZU released a series of self-produced singles, three of which were re-recorded, re-mixed, and re-mastered with legendary producer Kevin McMahon (Titus Andronicus, Real Estate, Swans, The Walkmen) and re-released as the WAZU EP on 01/10/12 to critical acclaim. After a killer EP release show at Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn, the Australian-American transplants are scheduled to perform at two Manhattan hotspots, Pianos and Bowery Electric.

If you enjoy Talking Heads, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Lady Gaga, or Muse, don’t miss the chance to see WAZU, who are currently in the running for the Deli Magazine’s Best of Electronic NYC 2011. WAZU’s debut album, also produced by Kevin McMahon, will be released on 05/29/12.
